Aloha Councilmembers,
I Strongly OPPOSE raising the GE tax on struggling families, ... not while you lawmakers are letting the billion -dollar -a -
year recreational cannabis industry operate tax-free, while wasting millions of dollars, in a failed attempt, to enforce the
racist prohibition, and perpetuating the prejudice against cannabis consumers, growers.- and patients, while cruelly
sending good folks to jail!
The GE tax is very prejudice against the poor already. 1/2 percent doesn't mean much to someone earning 60K a year,
but taking a few more items off the shopping list means a lot to someone earning minimum wage at 15K a year,
especially considering the skyrocketing cost of food and housing.
Why make local families pay more, when we can have a cannabis tax that raises huge amounts of revenue, which will
come substantially from very happy tourists.
Legalization would save millions in enforcing a completely failed prohibition, get folks out of jail, and finally end the
discrimination against seriously ill and diabled cannabis consumers.
Plus the bonuses of creating thousands of small family businesses, while supporting local farmers, and the island's self -
sustainability.
Tourists would gladly pay da kine "high" tax for Kona Gold, while local patients enjoy tax-free medicine.
Plus another big bonus is that drunk tourists fight, bust up stuff, and fill our hospital emergency rooms, while on the
other hand, tourists that are high on cannabis watch the sunset on the beach, while eating chocolate mac -nuts, and then
enjoy a mellow and sensual evening.Cannabis vacations are very popular in states that have already LEGALIZED
CANNABIS.
