Revised for a few spelling errors.
What a scam first they doubled property taxes on the poorest people. We still can't get more
Police or services in Puna. A district the size of Oahu has 7 cops? Then the County opted
themselves significantly higher wages (many, many times more than inflation), but they still
don't have enough money so need to put a regressive tax on the poorest people? For what???
Large raises and to subsidize a golf resort in a world class destination at the most expense of
the poorest. That is not how you make a budget, give yourself large wages and plan opulent
projects and then put it on the backs of your poorest citizens.
Adding additional GE tax on food and medicine is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG...
GE taxing of food and medicine is just plain WRONG in the first place! Adding additional
GE tax on food and medicine is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG... NO ONE is helped when
you take from those that have the very least. This is Hawaii's version on Trumpenomics...
Take more away from the poor so that those not in need can have even more.
Want more people out of poverty??? Provide positive opportunties to enrich lives. Like a
Vocational/Trade School in East Hawaii serving, Hilo, Puna, and Kua. What we can't have
that because we need to pay for a golf course and large raises for those that don't need it?
Regressive taxing of poor people then pointing the finger at them like why are you still poor is
controlling and abusive. And ONCE AGAIN I don't see any promises of better services.
Once you start doing this to "balance your budget". When does it end when we are paying 6%
or 8% GE tax? All because people don't want to sit down and realistically budget. That is
shameful and I don't see the actual benefit of it.
Maybe they should just make the Hawaii County Motto "Screw the Poor" so at least we are all
on the same page about it. If you don't think poor people pay enough tax. Take someone that
gets an average Social Security/Disability payment of a $1,000/month. Add up how much
they already pay on GE taxes, property taxes, gas taxes, other sin taxes, car registration to
County, cell phone tax, and any of the other small taxes that I have missed (because there are
so many) and you will find they are already "heavily" taxed.
I know that's probably meaningless as you sit there in your position of priveldge, but people
on fixed incomes are already strapped for any money. This plan just makes it even worse.
