Dear Council Members,; p
My names is Daysha Mendes, I am 44 years old and live in lower Puna. I am against the -&E
tax increase at this time and let me explain why. I represent a generation who live paych-k tam
paycheck, whereat least two incomes are needed to get by. I have added expenses such . `
childcare and afterschool programs to pay for. Every dollar counts in my budget. What may
seem little to the generation that came before me, is actually a whole lot for us. I consider
myself a part of the middle class, where I basically get no help from government. TAT
increase, I didn't like it but it passed anyways. Enormous pay increases while we sit in huge
debt, I disapproved but it passed anyways. Years and years of mismanagement not only at the
county level, buy State level too, is now forcing us to pay AGAIN! Are you trying to drive us
out of our homes? If so, it's working. I can name 5 local families who moved to Vegas for a
better life, in 2017 alone! Make the hotels pay more! Can't we do anything with the airline
industry? Anyone who makes a killing off of us, tax THEM! Maybe you need to halt the
growth in Puna first? We can't even fix our transit system! A $900,000 double dutch bus sits
rotting in the baseyard! I can go on and on, but just know that I am NOT one of
Councilwoman Eileen Ohara's constituents who agrees with the increase. In fact I have a lot
of family and friends who are against it but lost faith in our system. Their attitude is like "no
sense", so they don't attend meetings and they choose not to vote.
I humbly ask that you consider my testimony. Unlike others, I want to believe that my voice
counts.
Mahalo,
Daysha Mendes
You can charm me for the first 5 minutes, after that you better actually KNOW something. .
