Opposition To Bill 102 Testimony
Importance: High
Aloha Council Members,
I urge you to not pass Bill 102. This proposed legislation would enact a GET surcharge that would fund public
transportation projects in Hawaii County. The GET is a regressive tax that is imposed on all purchases in the State of
Hawaii. This means it will cost more to buy groceries, a new car, prescriptions, etc on the Big Island going forward. In
short, it will negatively impact everyone who lives and visits this island.
If the county needs additional funding, I urge the county increase the gasoline tax again and lobby the legislature
to restore the county's share of the TAT tax before it was capped. Both of these taxes would impact the resi gents of this
a
county much less than increasing the GET.-;
Sincerely. 0
