Aloha and thank you for reading my commentary. It would seem to me that raising the GE tax at this point would place an
undue burden on Hawaii Island's most vulnerable citizens. The only way that I could ever be in favor of raising the GE tax
would be if numerous purchases such as staple foods, drugs, and other medical expenses were not subject to this
tax. And the county does not have the jurisdiction to make these changes. The State Legislature needs to restructure the
GE tax before it becomes a viable option for increased taxation by the county.
