I'm writing in favor of the Rooster Bill 112. I think it should ban large rooster farms entirely, but this is better than
nothing. I live in dread of someone moving into our neighborhood to raise roosters for cock fighting. Besides being
awoken in the middle of the night by that cacophony, having neighbors involved in illicit gambling activity creates
too many opportunities for increased crime in our communities.
I don't understand why Hawaii makes a big deal about keeping out other gambling on our islands, but looks the
other way when the gambling involves cock fighting. Some of these cock breeders pretend they are farming, but
there is no requirement for them to prove that their income is from selling roosters as an agricultural product for
consumption. Cock breeding is cruel to the animals, cruel to neighbors trying to get a decent night's sleep, incites
men to enjoy watching violence against animals, and is generally uncivilized behavior and a public nuisance. It's a
way of life for a lot of people in the Philippines, but I expect better from Hawaii. Please support this bill.
