Aloha, as a Kohala realtor for 30 years i can testify that a rooster farm adjacent to one's property (unless in an area
of larger acreage) is a real deterrent to future owners and potentially a health hazard (lost sleep, etc) to those who
live there.
It should not matter if the property is zoned Ag., because in Kohala there are a lot of parcels with Ag zoning which
are less than 2 acres in size. There is plenty of remote, big undeveloped acreage in our district if there has to be a
provision for this activity. The minimum requirement should be setbacks from all property lines, and even a
restriction on the number of birds. We know, of course, they are being raised for illegal activity (cock-
fighting/gambling), so it begs the question why it is a subject neither the local police nor the county officials wish to
address. I hope you will work to find a solution to this problem.
Sincerely,
Elaine Christianson, RB
