Council Testimony
Subject:
Bill 112, limiting rooster farms -support
Date:
Monday, March 12, 2018 10:04:03 AM
Aloha honorable council members:
We are neighbors at 55720 Hawi Road of the rooster farm recently installed 2 lots away from us at 55702A Hawi
Road.
In short, the noise is intolerable. We are awoken in the middle of the night, virtually every night, because of these
roosters.
Neighbors who are closer to this activity are even more acuity affected than we are, by the noise and smell. Their
quality of life is severely impacted. The value of their properties is depreciated.
The owners apparently claim that this is a legal agricultural enterprise and that they have a cultural right to raise
these fighting cocks. This makes no sense to us. These birds are housed in squalid conditions until they are
sacrificed during the illegal activities around cock fights. How can this activity be justified as legal when its
ultimate purpose is so flagrantly illegal?
Rational rules regarding the raising of these abused animals should take into consideration the profound effect such
activities have on the quality of life of those of us who live in close proximity.
Please support Bill 112 that would allow for such rational rules to exist.
Mahalo for your time and consideration.
