Aloha Honorable Council Members;
I empathically support Bill 112 introduced by Eileen Ohara. I know so
many of us in our little neighborhood here that are suffering due to a
,rooster farm located at 55-702A Hawi Road (3-5-5-12-14). I .don't think
Earl, nor his mother Margaret, are aware of all that we are going through.
They have lived here longer than we. We will suffer even at 75 feet of
separation, when crowing at 35-40 decibels during the time we are trying
to rest for the next day's work. I do get awakened in the middle of the
night by the 45 or so roosters only 45 feet from my lot line. My property is
only 27,000SF. I can't imagine what it might be like to. endure that sound
if I were as close as Robert and Swarupo. I can smell the roosters when I
work on that side of the' property, too, depending on the winds. I have
feral chickens attaching my 2 kitties, now that the roosters have moved in.
I am sure the feral chickens are attracted to the roosters' food and mate
with them; producing more feral chickens and roosters.
I know the value of my property has declined with this nuisance. This is
pretty much all that I'll be securing my elder years with, as my husband
passed away 2 years ago. AND it's not fair that my neighbors lose $50,000-
75,000 because of this source of an illegal activity. If you consider how
this would severely impact you, dear hard-working County public servants,
I do think you'll agree. With your wise action, you can protect the citizenry
from unwarranted loss of their property value. But I do feel that, most of
all, assuring those you are governing they can get the sleep they need,
means so much more than many know who are not plagued with a
problem of this nature. I did research getting my degree in Psychology, on
serotonin. This is the brain chemical that builds up over the daytime
causing one to want to sleep. While you sleep this chemical, Serotonin,
a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood and behavior is `burned up' in
REM sleep. I studied this process and found how severe the personality
changes can' become. Almost by accident, because I worked with
criminally -addicted adults in jail, I discovered the majority of them have
this build-up that does not dissipate. They do not get to REM sleep levels.
I urge you to consider the consequences for the mental health of anyone
that is kept from sleeping deeply. It has been medically verified in
psychiatry, for a couple of decades now.
