I strongly support Rooster bill 112, requiring a set back of at least 75
feet if there are more than 4 roosters.
I bought a house in HPP ,where it is zoned Ag 1, in 1989 when the number
of houses here were in the hundreds. It was country. Now there are
thousands of houses. A house was built next door to me 11 years ago, and
for 10 years I had a wonderful quiet neighbor. A year ago he sold the
house. My new neighbor brought roosters with him on his first day of
moving in, and placed them on our mutual property line. He now has at
least 40 roosters, probably more. I haven't slept past 4:30 am since he
moved in. They Crow starting at 4:30 and really never stop. There can be
a pause in early evening, but all it takes is one crowing and the rest
start. I have to turn my TV up to hear it over the crowing. I'd like to
point out that that this is a case of someone moving in to an
established area and bringing their roosters with them. This is the norm
in HPP, so if anyone tells you they had the roosters first and it is new
neighbors that are complaining, take it with a grain of salt.
I tried moving away to escape the noise, but with the rooster farm my
property values have fallen below what I owe on the house, at least
$50,000 less than the house was worth before they moved in.
