We all know that these rooster farms are supporting an illegal and cruel activity of rooster fighting. These backyard rooster farms are a blight to the communities they are in. They discourage sales of property and bring the value of neighboring homes down. I would like to submit personal testimony on how this has affected myself personally and other friends. I am born and raised in Hawaii. About 5 years ago I was house hunting. I wanted a home on a little bit of property so that I could homestead. Many of the homes that I was interested in the Hawaiian Paradise Park association that I could -afford were directly near rooster farms with dozens of roosters. Because of this I did not put offers in for any of these homes. Another one of my friends had owned and lived in a home in Hawaiian Paradise Park. About two years he had a new neighbor move into the home next door to him. This neighbor ended up starting a rooster farm. Next thing he knew this guy had dozens of roosters in little a frames against the property line of their homes. He tried to speak with his new neighbor about the issue of these roosters and how they caused him loss of sleep and his previously quite neighborhood was now a cacophony of rooster screeching at all times of day and night. His neighbors response was to add more roosters. He ended up selling his property at a loss to move away from this neighbor. I have several friends interested in moving into the HPP area. They have looked at multiple homes, however to date have not put in an offer on a home due to the proximity of rooster farms. They want to move to ag land to homestead and have piece and quiet. I am not against a few roosters, chicken farms, or farming. I am against people raising more than a few roosters in close proximity to homes for illegal fighting or to send to countries that allow cock fighting. I am also worried about the devaluation of properties in these- neighborhoods and the illegal activity such as gambling that happens due to these rooster farms.
