HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0765.096 2016-2018I have become aware of a bill that will ban any more than 4 roosters and/or require a "setback" of at least 75 feet for placement of roosters. I also understand if this were to pass, it will be island -wide. In Hawaiian Paradise Park, this would not even be possible as the lots are only 130' across. I oppose this bill (and I am a Realtor) because we should be educating our clients and buyers about this subdivision and other subdivisions that are zoned for' agricultural use. This was zoned AG land when the residential people bought it.. The fact that people are permitted to build a home and not do anything of an agricultural nature is a bonus to them if inclined not to do so. This infringes on the rights of the people who bought in Hawaiian Paradise Park for the purpose of raising roosters and chicken farms or whatever else they planned on doing. Some as long ago as 30+ years. To speculate that all rooster breeders do so for cock -fighting isn't true and breeding them isn't illegal the last time I checked or a whole "lotta" people would be behind bars. It's the act of fighting, no? I am just beside myself with how the newcomers are pushing out the locals and farmers for their own agenda. This is causing a huge issue between the locals and the anti -rooster people and there are some horrible accusations and race cards getting thrown around in there. It's going to become a battlefield. After roosters what then? Can't stand the sound of the .sheep, the goats, the cows, the horses, the pigs. Next it will be the smell. Then the unsightly farms. Tractors too loud. Already one woman is complaining about farms or Ag activity period. Really?! It's ag land. Please don't take this away from our locals. Please. Realtors need to educate their buyers when they show them this area. Solution — the complainers can hui with their neighbors to buy out the farms or buy the vacant land around them. This bill, if passed, is going to cause so much of a rift between the locals and the "haoles " (and there's a mess on Facebook with racial slurs) that we may never recover. Ref. T®: Ref, ®ate ,MAR 13 2alk. My two cents. Hope it can be 50 cents because I'm speaking for the ag people. I have clients that don't farm but they were aware of what could be when they bought. I'd be shocked to see even one of them voice a complaint about the rooster farmers. We discussed this in depth. If a Realtor buys in there and then complains, double shame on him or her. Don't think I don't understand how loud they are. I get it... but buyer beware. `You are in agriculturally zoned subdivision. You can have your nice house but there may be consequences for buying the inexpensive land. You asked why it was so "cheap" when you first saw it. You should have been told'. Thank you for your time.
