RESOLUTION NO. 575 18
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PUNA CANOE
CLUB FOR ITS KAMALII HOE PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the Puna Canoe Club is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose missions
is to perpetuate the ancient sport of Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing through an enjoyable,
nurturing and disciplined program; and
WHEREAS, the Puna Canoe Club established its Kamali`i Hoe Project to build strong
family support for youth water sport and foster team building through community service; and
WHEREAS, the Kamali`i Hoe Project offers academic support, stresses family values of
respect and responsibility, and encourages healthy bodies, well-being and teamwork by
demonstrating a shared responsibility of caring for the canoe,the paddles, and proper
maintenance of the equipment, and halau; and
WHEREAS, the Puna Canoe Club is requesting funds to purchase youth paddles for
current and future members, supplies for beach clean ups, and materials for maintaining canoes,
paddles, and the canoe halau; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports youth water sports and
activities that promote healthy bodies, teamwork and camaraderie, all of which are found in
canoe paddling; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Puna Canoe Club for its Kamali`i Hoe Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
