<br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
<br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
<br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KAHUA PA'A MUA,
<br /> INC., TO SUPPORT KOHALA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S DISCOVERY GARDEN—
<br /> FARM TO SCHOOL PROJECT.
<br /> WHEREAS, Kahua Pa'a Mua, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission
<br /> is to enhance communities through economic, conservation,preservation, social, and educational
<br /> programs for youth and adults with a focus on agriculture; and
<br /> WHEREAS,Kahua Pa'a Mua, Inc., is partnering with Kohala Elementary School to
<br /> expand its Discovery Garden—Farm to School project to teach, in an exploratory manner,
<br /> sustainable agricultural practices, STEM content, wellness, nutrition, and Hawaiian values; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the Discovery Garden—Farm to School project brings parents and the
<br /> community into the development of school menus,partnering with local farms and recruiting
<br /> experts to provide education specific to food and nutrition while teaching self-reliance to youth;
<br /> and
<br /> WHEREAS, Kahua Pa'a Mua, Inc., is requesting funds for picnic tables, soil, seeds,
<br /> mason jars, kitchen kits, and other gardening and cooking supplies to expand the Discovery
<br /> Garden—Farm to School project; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports programs that
<br /> facilitate the retention, expansion, and innovation of Hawai`i's agricultural sector, food systems,
<br /> and food security in our island community; and
<br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
<br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
<br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity,
<br /> service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
<br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of
<br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to Kahua Pa'a Mua, Inc., to support Kohala
<br /> Elementary School's Discovery Garden—Farm to School project.
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
<br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
