Aloha from Hawaiian Beaches,
I would like to remain anonymous as this subject has brought on a lot of controversy and frankly I fear backlash.
Where I live in Hawaiian Beaches, not far from me is a Rooster Farm.While I have seen the people who live there and
they seem friendly enough..the issue is not so much the noise but the associated activity.
Just in the past 6 months their kids and/or associated have trespassed on to my property several times(even after being
asked to stay off our property and leave our roosters and chickens alone)to attempt to still one of our 3 roosters. Mind
you these guys are free range and reside on my property and my neighbors.To us they're our pets.They have names
and we feed them.
These individuals have no respect for people's private property and have not only trespassed on our property but our
neighbors as well,when trying to lure a rooster with their bait cock. One time after asking them to leave our property
(3rd time in 2 months) and asked to apologize they threatened us that they'd come back with family.
That's just one example of what happens when these are located near you.You have to fear your pet will be stolen and
possibly used in a life of torture. I see these individuals out walking, on a scooter and sometimes driving looking for
roosters they can snatch. Myself as well as all our surrounding neighbors have warned them more than once and they
do not respect that at all.
Furthermore,the house in question tends to have a great load of drama. Cars speeding and racing to and away from the
house. Exceeding the speed limit often by double. Sometimes you'll hear verbal altercations take place with screaming
and yelling. Generally followed by one car speeding away and another chasing. Both and all driving recklessly down a
side street.This almost always happens after 10 pm and as late at 1 am.
People here fear turning people in because of retaliation and because we often fear the police are not on the side of
justice.While I call in things which directly impact my property usually. I try not to meddle in things I fear will only lead
to punishment if they or anyone else found out I called.
The rooster farms are not just about noise. It's about associated criminal behavior. No, not everyone is selling roosters
for fighting. However,what else does any one person need or want a rooster for?You don't need them for hens to lay
eggs, and you don't need more than one for a support animal. I would also assume a legit rooster farm would not be
trying to steal roosters either.
Which leads back to criminal activity and behaviors. Cock fighting is cruel and I question anyone's morality who feels
fighting animals is an ok thing to do. It is illegal for cock fighting in this state,therefore anyone associated is already
committing a crime.When you find breaking the law in one way is ok and especially something so inhumane, it often
means you are also ok with various other illegal activities.They go hand in hand.

In an area like Hawaiian Beaches/Shores,where the lots are small.Small like any other residential area.. I see no reason

for anyone to have more than 4 anything (aside from hens). May that be sheep,goats, roosters..you name it.While the

area is zoned ag or mix, it is very much residential use. Places like HPP with large lots, I'm more understanding.You can
really have a farm on 1/4 of an acre or less.
This entire island is zoned or was zoned ag. It's not people trying to make Hawaii "mainland". It's merely a common law
that most cities have for residential areas. Livestock is messy, smelly, and when not handled properly.. can lead to some
pretty nasty side effects. Permitting smell and disease/illness.
I know some people cry.. don't move next door to it. But that's not surly the case for all. Some could have lived in their
place a long time before someone moved in and disrupts their peace. Many people move to Hawaiian Beaches/Shores
or other subdivisions never even knowing that it too is zoned ag.Why would they? It's primary purpose is residential. It's
simply unrealistic to have any viable farm activity on lots as small as these.
As for the roosters, do I want them in my neighborhood. No. I do not condone the associated activity and unfortunately
more times than not..the purpose of these farms are for illegal activity. I want my community to be safe. I want to not
fear letting my children play outside. I want to not fear threats because I have kindly asked people to not steal my
roosters. I don't want to disrupt culture, however.. I think safety needs to supersede that.
Removing the rooster farms from residential areas IS removing crime from our neighborhoods and away from schools.
Our children, your children... deserve to have a safe neighborhood.
