Subject: Please Support Bill 112
Rooster farms depress land values and hurt the tax base in Puna. We
taxpayers end up subsidizing the roads & services enjoyed by freeloaders
not paying taxes on their illegal cockfighting & dogfighting gambling
enterprises. Those "bloodsport" gambling enterprises go hand in hand with
all sorts of other unsavory activity (drugs, alcohol abuse, domestic
violence, junkyard mess, squats, etc) none of which contribute toward
aloha and a better Hawai'i.
The fact is year after year Hawai'i is ranked by Forbes, Bloomberg Report,
and others as at or near the top of the list of all 5 0 states for corruption and
is ranked at or near the bottom of the list for friendliness to
entrepreneurship and new business start-ups. That is a fact. Cleaning up
the overall mess starts at the local level, one pragmatic step at a time, and
this is a very good step in the right direction.
Mahalo to Council Rep. Ohara for advancing this bill and mahalo to you
for supporting a better Hawaii with a "yes" vote.
