Subject: Testimony in support of Bill 112
Dear Council Members:
I am writing you in support of Bill 112, which helps place restrictions important to eliminating rooster "farms"
and illegal cockfighting activity on our island.
As a practicing real estate broker I can give multiple examples of fine properties, worth in the million-dollar
range, that became almost unmarketable due to the existence of large rooster farms in the neighborhood.
On a personal level, I object to the unsanitary and inhumane conditions in which these roosters are kept, let
alone that their sole purpose in life is to be used in the cruel practice of cockfighting, which is illegal. I have no
objection at all to chickens and roosters kept in backyards or farms in our rural areas, and often enjoyed eggs
gifted to me by our neighbor's wandering hens over the years.
The provisions in this bill are a big step in the right direction and I urge you to vote "YES".
