Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 835, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 835, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated March 19, 2018, submits
Mr. James McCully for reappointment to the Hawai`i County Board of Appeals.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. McCully who appeared in
the Hilo Chambers for this reappointment. Mr. McCully was recently confirmed on November 2,
2017 and is eligible to serve a full term that would expire on December 31, 2022.
Mr. McCully states that he has become a member of the democratic party.
Several Council Members commented in favor of the reappointment of Mr. McCully. The vote
was then taken with all Council Members voting "aye." Chair Eoff stated that Mr. McCully did
not need to appear at the next Council meeting for confirmation of his re-appointment.
Pursuant to Section 6-9.2 of the Hawai`i County Charter, members of the Board of Appeals shall
be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 835, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of James McCully to the Hawai`i
County Board of Appeals.
