I'm completely in favor of programs supporting children of incarcerated parents.
And from the Camp Agape video, it looks like a well-intentioned, well -organized program. It shows children
having a fantastic time surfing, horseback riding, dancing, and doing art, with caring adults continuously giving
them the support they need.
But there may be problem with taxpayer money funding religious activities.
The Camp Agape video shows children raising their hands "giving their lives to the Lord", says children
"worship together", has a child saying "lift all that burden up to Jesus" to an audience at the camp, and has the
narrator saying children will "share Jesus with their peers and friends."
To clarify the issue: would County funding be okay if this was a Buddhist camp?
Is there some other way to support these children? Or to change the emphasis on religion at Camp Agape?
It looks like a wonderful program. I hope a way can be found to support these deserving children without
raising taxpayer/ religion issues.
