Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was referred Communication No. 833,
reports as follows:
Communication 833,transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated March 21, 2018, nominates Kyle Keamo
of Council District 2 to the Fire Commission. Mr. Keamo is a teacher at Hilo High School, from which
he is also an alumni. He possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences from
Brigham Young University-Hawai`i..
A lifelong resident of Hawai`i, Mr. Keamo has coached various youth sporting teams and expressed an
interest in giving back to the community.
Mr. Keamo indicates that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will fill a vacant
seat with a term that expires on December 31, 2021. Mr. Keamo had a scheduling conflict and was not
able to appear before the Committee. Executive Assistant Rose Bautista assured the Committee that he
would appear at the April 25, 2018, Council meeting.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication No. 833, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Kyle Keamo to the
Fire Commission.
