Dear Council Members:
I seems to me that the proposal to remove the Cultural Center from its current location
facing on Kalakaua Park, and to relocate them somewhere else, is a patently bad idea.
The Center has worked hard to establish itself as a focal point for a whole range of
cultural events. The public has a sense of pride and ownership of the center in that place.
The Center is in the center of town, where it should be. To force it to move would
seriously compromise its mission.
If the Merrie Monarch Festival staff wishes to utilize part of that facility, they should be
welcomed to do so. The Festival is part of the overall cultural establishment and
logically could be incorporated into the operation of the Center. But to give the facility
over entirely to the Festival seems unwarranted and unnecessary.
I urge the council to reject any proposal to relocate the Cultural Center. Thank you for
this opportunity to share my concerns.
Best Regazds
