Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Frances Brewer of Council District 5, to the Puna
Community Development Plan Action Committee. Ms. Brewer currently works as the
Communications Director for the Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC).
She is a former employee of the Department of Education as a middle and high school
teacher and the US Forest Service Institute for Pacific Islands Forest in Hilo
Ms. Brewer holds a BA in Biology from UH Hilo and an MA in Education from
Chaminade University.
Ms. Brewer has lived in Hawai'i for approximately 14 years. She was one of the
organizers of the Women's March in Hilo and volunteers for Planned Parenthood. She
states she is committed to making our community the best that it can be. Ms. Brewer
works tirelessly to educate and inform residents to protect our island from little fire ants,
rapid ohia death, albizia growth, and other invasive species.
Ms. Brewer states she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will
serve a term ending December 31, 2021.
