Dear Chair Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Jordan Calpito of Council District 3 to the Cultural
Resource Commission. Mr. Calpito is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Cultural
Anthropology and holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science from UH Manoa.
As a graduate student, Jordan has also served as a guest lecturer at UH Hilo where he
presented various topics on Hawaiian burial preservations in the Anthropology and
Hawaiian Studies programs.
Mr. Calpito's employment experiences range from being a teaching assistant at a
charter school, a substitute teacher with the DOE, a political science research assistant
at UH Hilo, and a burial site specialist with the State of Hawai'i Department of Land and
Natural Resources (State Historic Preservation Division).
Mr. Calpito resides in Hilo and has lived in Hawai'i for over 28 years. If confirmed, he will
serve a term ending December 31, 2022.
