Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 884, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 884, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated April 6, 2018, nominates
Geraldine Bell of Council District 3 to the Hawaii County Cultural Resources Commission.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Ms. Bell who appeared in
person. Ms. Bell resides in Kamuela and has lived in Hawai`i for 20 years. If confirmed, she
will serve a term ending December 31, 2022.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Ms. Bell. The vote was then taken with nine
Council Members voting "aye." Chair Eoff stated that Ms. Bell did not need to appear at the
next Council meeting for confirmation of her appointment.
Pursuant to Article 44, Section 2-226 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Hawai`i County Cultural
Resources Commission shall consist of nine members, and shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 884, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Geraldine Bell to the Hawai`i
County Cultural Resources Commission.
