Dear members of the Committee on Planning,
While I agree that there should be regulation in regards to unhosted vacation rentals, the
language of the proposed bill is unclear as to what types of transient accommodations each
section is applicable to. Unhosted, ohanas, hosted spare rooms, tents, boats, vans, etc. all make
up the vacation rentals available on the island. Also, the monies collected for failure to comply
and the annual fee all go back into the regulation of vacation rentals- none of it goes back into
the infrastructure of the neighborhoods. Put the money into paving roads, or putting electric
poles on all county roads. If I can't rent out a space to finance the 8 telephone poles needed to
bring electricity down the county road to provide on -grid electricity to my lot, then the county
should use the money collected from policing rentals to provide these basic necessities so
residents don't HAVE to rent out their spaces.
