Subject: Short term vacation rentals
Date: Sunday, April 22, 2018 8:27:09 AM 4418 APR 2 7AN8:- O6
Aloha,
In regards to Short Term Vacation Rentals, I live in Kona, in a neighborhood, NOT on an acre. Our neighbors
homes are close together. I live next door to a vacation rental where the owner lives in another state. It's handled by
a property management co.
My major complaint is that people renting the home, are obviously on vacation time and in vacation mode. It seems
that 90% of the renters are up at wee hours in the morning with their kids hooping and hollering and dragging patio
furniture at
4:30am. They're on a different time zone and don't have respect for the neighbors around them. The same at night..
drinking, partying, loud talking all night.
It gets old constantly contacting the property mgmt co or owners or asking the renters if they could be more quiet.
Another huge issue is the shortage of rentals available for people who actually live here in Hawaii.... which also
drives the rental prices up dramatically. Who's benefiting...? Not the citizens or neighborhoods.
It seems that a lot of people are making good money in this industry. My thinking is that a business industry does
NOT belong in a residential neighborhood.
Please please help our neighborhoods!
If rentals are going to be grandfathered in with other baloney, at the very least, make and enforce the property
owners and management companies accountable for the taxes and enforcing rules so that neighbors are not living in
misery.
I've also had conversations with friends who are very concerned when a neighbor puts their home up for sale.. that
an out of state person will buy it and turn it into another vacation rental.
It's just getting out of control.
'Please...: do something!
Mahalo,
Sent from my Whone
Aloha and Have a Great Day!
