I am writing to you to hopefully let you know how upset we are with this new bill you are adopting.
We are from Canada and chose Hawaii to become our winter home ..due to restrictions from both countries we are
unable to spend more than 180 days here and are very frightful to leave our home stand alone while we are not here.
We are in the Puna area where there are very few hotels as a result the rentals are vital to this area's
economy.... without them there would be no place to stay.....
We contribute to the Hawaiian economy by paying very high house taxes (because we are not Hawaiian residents).
We pay our GE andTA taxes on time all the time ..... we hire property manager, housekeepers, yard maintenance
people, plumbers, electricians, solar, truckers, etc.all these people will be out of work....
We spend all our dollars locally trying to help the little shop keepers and restaurants, what will happen to all these
people if we are forced to leave.
I understand there are a lot of rentals which aren't paying their fair share of taxes. Why don't you spend useful time
and go after these people and bring in millions of tax dollars to help improve the infrastructure and lives of
Hawaiians. It would be a very simple process to do this....
If this bill passes as is we would seriously have to consider moving somewhere else for the winter. We will not leave
our house empty to theft....
Thank you for your time
