REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: April 24, 2018 Re: Comm. No. 888/Res. No. 590-18 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:35 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 590-18, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution 590-18, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 888 dated <br /> April 6, 2018, authorizes the payment of funds of a later fiscal year and of more than one fiscal year for <br /> a multi-year lease of real property for the County of Hawai`i Fire Department. <br /> This resolution authorizes the Mayor to enter into a new five-year agreement with an option for an <br /> additional five years with Kaneshiro & Sons Enterprise, Limited and Glenn Kaneshiro Partnership, <br /> to allow for the continued occupancy of warehouse space located at 1990 Kino`ole Street, Hilo, <br /> with an approximate monthly cost of$4,958. <br /> Hamana Ventura, Property Manager, gave a brief description of Resolution No. 590-18 and stated that <br /> the County is requesting to extend its lease of the warehouse for another five years at the current rate. <br /> Council Member Susan Lee Loy questioned about the types of items being stored in the warehouse, to <br /> which Mr. Ventura responded that it was initially leased so that the Fire Department would have <br /> adequate storage during renovations at the central fire station and will continue to utilize the storage <br /> space for items such as equipment,beds, and any items related to fire. She spoke in support of the <br /> resolution, however, she hopes that the need for storage space can be reduced in the future. <br /> Council Member Herbert "Tim" Richards inquired about the size of the leased space, of which <br /> Mr. Ventura responded that it is approximately 5,500 square feet. Mr. Richards also asked if this lease <br /> includes utilities, and Mr. Ventura replied that it does not.
