Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill 137, reports as follows:
Bill No. 137, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 889 dated
April 6, 2018, amends Ordinance No. 17-39, as amended, the Operating Budget for the County of
Hawai`i for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2018.
This bill increases revenues in the Coordinated Services account (425,000); and appropriates the
same to the Coordinated Services-Other Current Expenses account, for a total appropriation of
$160,000. Funds would be used by the Department of parks and Recreation to provide
additional service to participants.
Coran Kitaoka, Elderly Activities Operations Assistant Director,,Department of Parks and Recreation,
explained the purpose of the bill is to expand direct services to kupuna. Mr. Kitaoka stated that the
department is looking at expanding more services to the Captain Cook and Miloli`i areas in the
components of transportation and outreach. The additional funds will help with the fuel and
maintenance costs of their vehicles as well as to help rural transportation in the areas of nutrition
congregate sites.
There was no further discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill 137, and recommends its
passage on first reading.
