Subject: Ane Keohokalole Highway Phase III CIP Budget Addition (Bill 111 Draft 2)
Date: Saturday, May 19, 2018 8:00:03 AM
Importance: High
Aloha Hawaii County Council Members,
I support the appropriation of 9.2 million dollars on to
the Hawaii County CIP budget for the proposed Ane Keohokalole Highway
Phase III project in Kailua-Kona (Bill 111 Draft 2) . This is simply the
first step, albeit an important one, before the funds can be allocated
towards this much -needed highway project. It will represent the
county's 20% cost share for this highway. The remaining 80% will be.
funded by the Federal Highway Administration.
This proposed highway extension is critical transportation
infrastructure improvement for North Kona. Both Highway 190 and
Kaiminani Drive/Queen Kaahumanu Highway intersections are congested in
the early morning and afternoon hours. Yes, the soon to be completed
widening of Queen Kaahumanu Highway will be provide some relief.
However, the future expansion of the Palamanui College Campus, and
upcoming planned development in this area, warrant the need to extend
Ane Keohokalole Highway from Hina-Lani Street to Kaiminani Drive.
Sincerely,
Aaron Stene
