Since we first arrived here in 1981, we have over time acquired several properties, initially for the purpose of of providing housing for our larger family, many of whom followed our lead coming to Kona. As our family has grown, we have made some of several properties available for long term rental while using our families primary home as our residence. With children moving away as they grew up, we have decided to move our primary residence to a condo on Alii Drive, and have made our family home a vacation rental with "Kona Coast Vacations" We have and have had a very good relationship with our neighbors, and have made it a priority that we maintain this from the moment that we decided to do vacation rental. Because we live only 5 minutes away from our rental, we have been able to keep our close relationships with neighbors, We are able to keep in touch with our neighbors to monitor noise levels etc, and while there have been times we have had to ask renters to quiet down, it is nothing different from normal everyday neighborhood living. Every neighborhood experiences problems with noise and or relationship problems, and as such, we feel that the new noise regulations for vacation rentals are way too broad, and as written would be easy for officials to withdraw a hermit. We feel that it is important that all property owners be considered by the county, and that we are being represented in our desire to continue making our home available to guests. On another note, my wife and I are very aware that with the fact we are using our home as a vacation rental, our property taxes have risen astronomically. We are also paying TA and GE taxes regularly, so it seems that the county must be aware that this is a revenue source which is very helpful to them. With current events in Pahoa, and the fact that tourism is down, it would seem that the county leadership would be aware with the current drop in revenue, what can happen if good sources of tourism revenue are over regulated and or abused. Once again, my wife and I are so blessed to be considered Kamaaina's after our many years here in Kona. We would very much like to feel that our county leadership are Gum). No. � � . R L Ref.
