Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Michael Vitousek of So. Kona to the Leeward Planning
Commission. Mr. Vitousek currently works as the Cultural Resource Manager for 1250
Oceanside LLC Hokulia. He previously worked as a lead archaeologist for the State
Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Land and Natural Resources
(DLNR). He is a lifelong resident of Hawai'i County having graduated from the Hawai'i
Preparatory Academy.
Mr. Vitousek holds a BA in Anthropology from Bowdoin College in Maine and an MA in
Archaeology from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
As a committed member of his community, Mr. Vitousek currently serves as a
boardmember of the Kona Historical Society, Hokulia Parks and Cultural Sites
Association, and the Hoala Kealakekua Community Group.
Mr. Vitousek has no political party affiliation. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end
March 31, 2023.
