Dear Committee on Planning Hawaii County,
PPG

I am strongly opposed to this bill. I have written several past letters commenting on the
proposed bill. I have sent them to all of the council members and the county attorney's office. I
have asked for written responses to my many questions - no responses have been provided.
The key issues I oppose are:
1. This bill discriminates against home owners who choose to rent by setting a double standard
when compared to others that live in the neighborhood.
2. The renewal process is every year. (Make it a two year renewal)
3. The bill is bad for the local economy. We improved our home to make it a better home for
all to use. That money to improve the home went directly into the local economy - not to
mention what our guests spend locally when they stay.
4. The bill puts too much power in the hands of the Planning Director - it would appear that
the Planning Director has sole discretion on permit renewals.
5. The bill puts the power in the hands of neighbors who already don't like vacation rentals. It
will be their tool to stop new vacation rentals and get rid of old ones. Vigilante justice should
not be part of a civil society.
I urge you to revise the bill or vote no.
