HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0739.158 2016-2018From: Paul Crawford To: Council Testimony Subject: RE: Bill 108 Date: Friday, June 15, 2018 7:59:46 AM Dear Committee on Planning Hawaii County, The current eruption of Kilauea has destroyed the economy of the Lower Puna area. Owner occupied AirBnb rentals will be a big step in getting people to come back again, and see all the wonders of new land being created. This will put us on the map again, as something other than a disaster zone. Since we have very few resorts, or Hotels here, Vacation rentals are how the majority of visitors stay here. Owner occupied AirBnb's do not adversely affect the long term rental market here, and will bring desperately needed revenue to Pahoa and surrounding area businesses. As an owner occupied AirBnb for 3 years now, I have been sending people to restaurants, shops, tour groups, Sunday Markets, and Orchid nurseries, all of which delighted them, and they spent real money there. I urge you not to hamstring lower Puna's economy, in our great time of need, by making it impossible for visitors to stay here. The ability to rent out the spare room, helps homeowners survive , and shares the wealth in the local area. Regards, Paul Crawford Pahoa, HI 96778 m. Ref. To: Ref. Date JUN. ZU11 r m. Ref. To: Ref.
