It is important for residents of Hawaii County to have fair rules regarding their rights as property owners to legally rent their property as they see fit and necessary. It is income from these rentals that enables many residents to pay their taxes and make ends meet. It is unfair to impose a fee on specific rentals only, it should be the same for all transient accommodations, more like $150 annually, with fines imposed on those breaking the rules, increased with each occurrence, and possibly, after a set number of infractions, their ability to rent short term should be revoked.
