What a monumental undertaking! At the recent annual meeting of the Rural South Hilo
Community Association, a tiny portion of the document, a subset of the opportunities for
community action at the next step, almost covered an entire wall. My eyes glazed over (it
had been a long evening), but I figured I could just read the Plan later.
Well, I found time to read tiny portions of it, that were close geographically or that
covered topics I had contributed to years ago. I was pleased, gratified, and more than a
little amazed to find that, for each of these portions, over the years and multiple revisions
to massage a hodgepodge of wish lists and comments into an actionable document, the
intent of our community as I remember it has been preserved. Well done to all! This Plan
deserves the full support of the County Council Planning Committee.
