Aloha,
I am writing to you in response to Bill 108.1 have worked for many years for vacation rentals
as a housekeeper and thankfully was able to purchase a condo and rent it out as a vacation
rental. I also had to rent out my own home for a year as a short term rental and this enabled me
to keep my home (my association does not have rules against short term rentals). I pay my
GET and TAT taxes. I am concerned that these new laws will hinder my ability to keep
renting my condo (which employs me) or if something happens to me that I would not be able
to rent my home in a residential area in order to keep it.
This annual fee is too high to say the least. I live here and know that $500.00 is a lot of money
and most of us live paycheck to paycheck. I think you should consider the people who live
here with more kindness and understanding with our high cost of living. Annual fees should be
something for out of state/country owners and a 1 time fee for Hawaii residents.
I also had concerns about being "reachable within in hour". This is far fetched considering that
you could be anywhere on island and it would take more than an hour just to drive from point
A to B.
I think that this bill is too broad and does not consider the small, local person trying to make
ends meet. I am just trying to build some security for my future.
Regards,
Vicki Vaughan
