Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 972, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 972, transmitted by Acting Mayor Wilfred M. Okabe, dated June 21, 2018,
nominates Benj amine Heloca of Council District 8 to the Hawai`i County Cultural Resources
Commission.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. Heloca who appeared in
person. Mr. Heloca is a lifelong resident and is not a member of any political party. If confirmed,
he will serve a term ending December 31, 2019.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. Heloca. The vote was taken with nine
Council Members voting"aye:" Chair Eoff stated that Mr. Heloca did not need to appear at the
next Council meeting for confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Article 44, Section 2-226 of the Hawai`i County Code, the Hawai`i County Cultural
Resources Commission shall consist of nine members, and shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Planningis in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
PrP
No. 972, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Benjamine Heloca to the Hawai`i
County Cultural Resources Commission.
