Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 987, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 987, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 6, 2018, nominates
Michael Vitousek to the Hawai`i County Leeward Planning Commission.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. Vitousek who appeared in
person. Mr. Vitousek was born and raised on Hawai`i Island and states that he is not a member
of any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term ending March 31, 2023.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. Vitousek's nomination. The vote was then
taken with seven Council Members voting"aye." Chair Eoff stated that the nominee did not
need to appear at the next Council meeting for confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Section 6-7.3 of the Hawai`i County Charter, members of the Leeward Planning
Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 987, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Michael Vitousek to the Hawai`i
County Leeward Planning Commission.
