Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 988, reports as
follows:
Communication No: 988, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 6, 2018, nominates
Faith Yates to the Hawai`i County Leeward Planning Commission.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Ms. Yates who appeared in
person.. Ms. Yates was born and raised on Hawai`i Island and states that she is not a member of
any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term ending December 31, 2022.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Ms. Yates' nomination. The vote was then
taken with seven Council Members voting "aye." Chair Eoff stated that the nominee did not
need to appear at the next Council meeting for confirmation of her appointment.
Pursuant to Section 6-7.3 of the Hawai`i County Charter, members of the Leeward Planning
Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 988, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Faith Yates to the Hawai`i County
Leeward Planning Commission.
