Aloha,
-I am writing in support of equal access to the ocean for our Keiki,Seniors, and all Citizens. Na
Hoa Holomoku of Hawaii Yacht Club aims to promote all forms of boating in East Hawaii, including
traditional Hawaiian Sailing Skills. Na Hoa Holomoku provides a place to launch small sailing boats from
the beach for our physically challenged and our young children. The non-profit club provides a safetyfirst boating program for community.

boat by himself. My son has learned traditional sailing navigation through the sailing club and may
someday learn to navigate through this vital youth program. I recently sailed off the beach with my 5
year old and 11 year old. However, at the end of this sail we had to wheel the boat all the way_to Suisan
Basin through traffic and people drinking in the parking lot. The Big Island needs safe boating education
and programs and I believe this is the only youth sailing program on the east side of the the Island. The
community has benefited from a nonprofit being present at Bayfront.
The current location of Na Hoa Holomoku, has cleaned up the criminal activity that I have
observed at the Bayfront Park. The Ironwood trees have traditionally been a haven for criminal activity.
Since the location of the sailing club the criminal activity has been reported and deterred.
±' Please consider positive boating experiences for our community. Na Hoa Holomoku is the best
yacht club in the Pacific as it is a public nonprofit that is affordable and open to the public. The Big
Island should embrace positive-programs that keep our community healthy. Mahalo
