Hi to all the councils.
My name is Alex Franceschini and I am writing to you as a member of the Na Hoa Holomoku sailing club becau61
am trying to understand what is happening in Park and Recreation Departement. V
For quite a long time now we have been going through many unsettling news regarding our club. The impression
that I developed is that P&R for reasons that I still don't understand is trying to get read of our club.
NHH is the only club in the Big Island that provides sailing instructions to anyone that comes to our facilities. From
kids to adults, males females without any discrimination are accepted and are taught how to be safe on the water and
how to handle a sailboat.
And if anyone decided to stay to continue our classes, all we ask is a whole$70 for one year of membership! I have
seen other clubs where the same amount of money would give you access to a small sailboat for only a couple of
HOURS!
After being certified on the different type of sailboats that we own,for that same money that was paid to join our
club, anyone can come down on our sailing club days and take off on the boat of their own liking.
I don't think you can get any better deal than that!
Our instructors(all volunteers)are more that willing to help and they will go out on the same boat with anyone
who asks.
Do I need to ask the question"do you think this is a good for the community"or are we all in agreement that what
we have done till now has given everyone a good way to spend some recreational time?
So here is my question to you.Why Park and RECREATION(note the word)would want to kill a club so unique
on the Big Island?
From my side I am asking that you County councils help us out to survive, continue our mission of teaching
everyone that desires.
I would like to see from P&R an MOU that will assign to NHH use of that small plot of beachfront we are now
occupying. We are not asking for any money to support us.We have done everything on our own with our
volunteers and I would like to see this to continue as long as possible.(I would like us to be allowed to install a
fence around our facility to deter theft that has been plaguing us since ever, almost weekly). After all,
Hokulea is a great example of our island sailors!
Why not raise more young people into the sport.
Respectfully,Alex Franceschini
