Aloha,
As someone who has benefited from being a member of Na Hoa Holomoku of
Hawai'i sailing club,and observed others also benefiting,I am
submitting comments to the council on the issue of removal of the club's n
boats,equipment and storage lockers from their current site on Hilo -' C
Bayfront. .
To frame the context-Na Hoa Holomoku of Hawaii sailing club 0. O—G
(hereafter"the club")provides multiple benefits to youth,adults,and C7
families on Hawai'i island through its open to all and low-cost or free

educational and recreational activities.
These include,but are not limited to,regular and open to all free -
beginner sailing classes for youth,adults,and families;club races and
regattas,advanced sailing training,and club sailing days promoting
community connection and recreation;structured activities for youth in
the community that build ocean safety and awareness skills,as well as
self-confidence and teamwork skills;and volunteer maintenance&upkeep
of the bayfront area where the club boats&equipment are stored,
enhancing the public experience of the bayfront area.
I myself,and friends and family,have benefited from these activities,
as have friends'children and other families I know in the community.I
myself have contributed to these activities by assisting with club
classes,equipment,safety activities,and volunteer repair&maintenance.
Simply speaking,a place to have the club boats&equipment stored at
bayfront is necessary for these benefits to be realized.The club would
not be able to provide these community benefits without an agreed-upon
area at bayfront to operate from.The logistics of storing and
transporting boats and equipment from other locations would cripple or
more likely completely disable the club's ability to serve the community
as it has for years.
I request the council work with the parks&recreation department to,as
soon as possible,formalize a clear and mutually binding agreement
regarding ongoing use of the bayfront location by the club,so that it
can continue to serve the community from that location,as it has for
many years.The arbitrary and apparently permanent removal request
originally received by the club is not consistent with the club's long
service to the community.
