SUBJECT: Proposed Amendments to Bill No. 176, A Bill for an Ordinance Amending Chapter
5, Article 2, Division 3, Section 5-25, of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016
Edition, as Amended), Relating to the Building Permit Process.
Please see below a proposed amendment to Bill No. 176. The proposed amendment is illustrated
in Ramseyer format with respect to the contents of Bill No. 176; material to be deleted is
bracketed and stricken, and material to be added is underscored.
SECTION 2 OF Bill No. 176, that amends section 5-25, is amended by amending
subsection(i)to read as follows:
"(i) All privately owned single family residences shall be exempt from structural
review and applicants shall not be required to provide structural calculations
for a building permit as long as drawings are signed and sealed by either a
professional architect or structural engineer, both of whom must be licensed
[and insured] in the State of Hawai`i."
A draft copy of the proposed Draft 2 of the bill, with this amendment, is not attached due to the
limited scope of this proposed amendment. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
