RESOLUTION NO. 664 IS
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII
ISLAND PORTUGUESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CULTURAL AND
EDUCATIONAL CENTER TO ASSIST WITH THE 140TH YEAR COMMEMORATION
OF THE ARRIVAL OF PORTUGUESE IMMIGRANT FAMILIES TO HAWAII.
WHEREAS,the Hawai`i Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce Cultural and
Educational Center (HIPCCCEC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was formed to
promote and sustain the culture and heritage of the Portuguese; and
WHEREAS, the HIPCCCEC will be celebrating the 140th year commemoration of the
arrival of the first Portuguese immigrant families to Hawai`i inthe month of September 2018,
throughout Hawai`i Island; and
WHEREAS, the HIPCCCEC is requesting funds for advertising and other related
expenses for presentations in Ka`u and across the island to commemorate the 140th anniversary
of the arrival of Hawai`i first Portuguese immigrant families to Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports efforts to increase
knowledge and understanding of other cultures as well as the economic contribution of the
visitor industry to Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contigency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawai`i Island Portuguese Chamber of
Commerce Cultural and Educational Center to assist with the 140th year commemoration of the
arrival of Portuguese immigrant families to Hawai`i.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfer/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
