Subject: Resolution for a Sign Variance - Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority
New street entrance to the Hawai`i Ocean Science and Technology Park, at the
intersection of Kaiminani Drive and Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, Hawai'i, 96740

Pursuant to Hawaii County Code (HCC) Sec. 3-22(a), I am forwarding Natural Energy
Laboratory of Hawai'i Authority's drawings for a sign variance. The owner of the property is the
State of Hawai'i and the applicant representative is Leonard Alexander, whose phone number is
(808) 292-5157. The applicant is requesting a sign variance for one ground sign.
The proposed ground sign, as depicted in the attached drawings, is located at the new street
entrance to the Hawai`i Ocean Science and Technology Park, at the intersection of Kaiminani
Drive and Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, is seventy-nine (79) square feet
in area.
The maximum allowable area for ground signs in open districts is eight (8) square feet in area
per section 3-12(a), Chapter 3, Hawai'i County Code.
