CLERK .3TLL Ili( COUNTY: OF HAWA► 1COjUM.0107 My Name is Kurt Melow and I am a resident of Hakalau, Hi.me juL 10 AN..1: y I Like all of you whom have grown up here, I am certain you canattest to having seen Hawaii, this once rare gem of a paradise, rapidly consumed by commercial developers (many of whom do not even live here) transforming its once verdant vistas and sparkling sea views into the "Concrete Jungle" of Honolulu; the Hollywood like resorts of Maui, Molokai, & Kauai. And the exclusive hunting lands of Lanai & Niihau. In my lifetime, I have lived or worked (as a seagoing professional) on or around all these islands and witnessed the uncontrolled sprawl which has resulted in the prevention of our keiki to access the same beaches, streams and trails that we grew up having open & free access to. Moreover many of these places now display KEEP OUT signs and "This is a PRIVATE ROAD", Keep Out! Please, learn from the past. Don't allow developer's interests destroy the precious beauty of these islands, by creating another Honolulu. Preserve this rare culture for our children and maintain the atmosphere which visitors come to experience. Tourists will only come here as long as it is the natural paradise which is Hawaii. Not the cookie cutter malls of the cities they have fled, only to find the same phony facades here masked with a flaming Mai Tai and another tour bus ride to sell them a Hollywood version of.Waikiki. Once it is all paved and exclusive, they'll move on to the next beautiful place...until at last there are no more. The Hamakua Coast Development Plan was developed for you to protect the public trust in preserving Hawai`i's unique and limited natural, cultural and historic resources for current and future generations of visitors and the people of Hawai'i. Therefore, please perpetuate the hard work done by the developers of the Hamakua Coast Development Plan by using it responsibly to preserve this rare coast for all to enjoy long into the future. Malama ke aumakua, malama o ka wai, e malama keiki o ka aina. Aloha! 10 July 2018 Comm.No."la Ref.To: PI PC/ Ref. ®ate . 1 0 MN
