No. 665-18 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawai`i TIME: 2:08 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 665-18,reports as follows: Resolution 665-18, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 1038 dated August 15,2018, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs pursuant to Hawai`i Revised Statutes Section 46-7, for a grant to the Hawai`i County Police Department. The funds in the amount of$113,387 would be used to purchase a driving simulator for the Police Department's Emergency Vehicle Operator Course as well as remedial training of employees involved in traffic collisions. Captain Aimee Wana appeared before Your Committee and explained that in addition to training, the driving simulator will supplement the department's emergency vehicle operator course, and will also be used to train employees who have been involved in traffic collisions. Council Member Susan L.K. Lee Loy inquired whether the department had a place that was adequate in size to house the simulator and whether it would require additional wiring or power requirements. Captain Wana replied that the simulator is 10 feet by 10 feet which is the size of an office they currently have available and would require basic power source.
