SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
KAPIOLANISTREET:
One Way Traffic Pattern, Mid-block Crosswalk and Passenger Loading Zones.
The Hilo Union School Traffic Ad Hoc Committee requests various amendments to the Traffic Code for
the purpose of improving overall safety for students and pedestrians along Kapiolani Street between
Waianuenue Avenue and Haili Street. These include converting Kapiolani Street to one-way during the
morning peak hour on school days, similar to Waianuenue Avenue, expanding the existing passenger
loading zones and adding amid-block crosswalk neaz the covered walkway. A location map is attached.
Proposals have been discussed with St. Joseph Church and other establishments in the immediate area
and all support these improvements to traffic safety.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you have any
