SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO
PROVIDE THE COUNTY OF HAWAII THE OPPORTUNITY TO
INCREASE THE COUNTY'S GENERAL EXCISE TAX SURCHARGE
FROM ONE-QUARTER PERCENT TO ONE-HALF PERCENT, AND
ALLOW THOSE FUNDS TO BE APPLIED TO MORE THAN PUBLIC
TRANSPORTATION, INCLUDING THE ABILITY TO EXPEND A
PORTION ON PRIVATE ROAD UPGRADES AND MAINTENANCE.
Attached please find a resolution allowing the County to increase the General Excise Tax (GET)
Surcharge from one-quarter percent to one-half percent and allow those funds to be applied to
more than public transportation, including the ability to expend a portion of the fund for
upgrades and maintenance on private roads.
Please place this item on an appropriate committee agenda for the November 1, 2018 Committee
meetings.
